DEMERIT “Walking Out of Fog” US Tour 2011
This summer, Chinese punk band Demerit invades the US for the first time

“Few music journalists following this underground movement would disagree that one of the most politically authentic and musically talented hardcore acts to emerge from this scene is Demerit,” – BRIAN HARDGROOVE (Public Enemy)

RENOWNED CHINESE PUNK BAND DEMERIT INVADES THE US FOR THE FIRST TIME
Beijing is buzzing and China’s new musicians are making themselves heard. A country known for rapid change, the past half-decade can be seen as a Great Leap Forward for China’s musical underground. Appearances at top international festivals and coverage in major press, both domestic and international, have highlighted just some of the action. When six of the country’s top bands toured the US last spring to universally-packed venues, the newest Chinese export began to truly go international.
Summer 2011 sees another blast from beyond the Great Wall with the arrival of Chinese punk heroes Demerit for the first time, both as part of the Vans Warped Tour 2011—they join the tour on Fri, July 29 in Orlando—and a subsequent club tour down the West Coast with several great local bands.
ARTIST DESCRIPTION
Demerit is a hardcore punk band from Beijing, China. They play blazing sets with a ferocious energy, mixing street punk and 1980s metal with pointed commentary on their local social and political situation.
Widely recognized as the best (and most influential) punk band in China, their sophomore full-length effort Bastards of the Nation (Maybe Mars Records, 2008) has been critically-acclaimed by both the public and the press, with Painkiller, China’s top metal magazine, declaring it as 2008’s Record of the Year.
Since their formation in 2004, Demerit has planted the flag of Chinese punk throughout the country during their wide-ranging tours and is considered leaders and guides for the younger generation of Chinese punks, inspiring the formation of an autonomous crew of die-hards—the Demerit Army, known for their fervent dedication to the Frenzied Four.
The band takes the rebellious spirit of punk very seriously and have cooperated widely with foreign bands touring China, including DOA (Canada), Queers (USA), Insurgent Kid (Sweden), SS20 (Germany) and Suck Stuff (Korea), as well as many young new Chinese bands kicking off their careers.
They land in the US in July fresh on the heels of their latest effort, a split 10” with German D-beat outfit SS20, released last month through Genjing Records. In addition to being featured prominently in the heavily-buzzed documentary “Beijing Punk”—a look at Beijing’s underground music scene by Australian filmmaker Shaun Jeffords—they’re scheduled to hit the studio later this year with Brian Hardgroove to record their third full-length release.
